Natural language processing
The field of building systems that work with human language like translation, speech recognition, text-to-speech, OCR, and the large language models behind tools like ChatGPT. "AI" is often used loosely to mean all of these at once, which causes confusion and can cause lower-risk technologies (text-to-speech, OCR) get swept up in criticisms aimed at very different systems.
