CORE Institute Fellowship

The CORE Institute, run by the Societal Computing and Innovation Lab (SCIL) at UC San Diego's San Diego Supercomputer Center, supports research driven by societal problems that require deep collaboration across disciplines.

The 2026–2027 cohort is centered on AI & Indigenous Language Revitalization, with the goal of making sure early design decisions in this emerging field are informed by the full range of relevant expertise before norms harden.

That focus grew directly out of the Sunaŵi workshop. Tainã Coleman, one of the workshop's organizers, was a postdoctoral fellow in SCIL at the time, so the workshop and the fellowship developed hand in hand: the workshop as a first gathering, the fellowship as a way to sustain that collaboration over a full year.
