Jared Coleman is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Loyola Marymount University and a member of the Big Pine Paiute Tribe of the Owens Valley. His core research is in distributed and decentralized computing (cooperative robotics, online algorithms, and scheduling) and he also leads work using AI and large language models to support the revitalization of critically endangered Indigenous languages, especially Owens Valley Paiute. He directs the Kubishi Research Group (kubishi means "brain" in Owens Valley Paiute), whose projects range from machine translation for extremely low-resource languages to chatbots and tools for community language learning.
